Ministry of Sound: Seductive by: Wendy Garcia

I found the most interesting of performances on the night of October 22^nd. Ministry of Sound is a night club and famous for the house DJ’s that perform there.  The club does not look like much from the outside; white and brown building with windows starting on what seems like the second floor. At night the club projects its logo on the side of a building which is near the entrance.  Inside there are flashing strobe lights along with blue and pink lights lighting the walls of the nightclub.  There are many people dancing and drinking to the booming sound of the music. After an hour of dancing, my partner and I wandered into the second floor’s Baby Box room.  

We enter through a glass door, a barrier that helps separate the music from the main dance floor. We proceeded to sit and relax on the black seating provided on the left side of the room and this is where I would witness an interesting performance.  A group of three people walked in; two women and a male. The girls were dressed provocative; one wearing tight black leggings with a tight low cut tank top which exposed her big breasts. The other girl was wearing a red short dress with black heels; both women were wearing heavy make-up and had curled hair. The group started dancing on the dance floor, the male awkwardly in the middle of the two seductive women. They proceeded to move closer to the seating area in which each woman took turns dancing with the male. The male was very awkward; he did not seem to know how to dance with two women at the same time. He smiled nervously because by this time the women were being very provocative drawing attention from the crowd in the seating area. The male proceeded to go to the bar and was there for a couple minutes.  The two women, while waiting for their missing partner, started to dance.  The one with the tight black leggings put her leg over the back of the seat and kicked her leg up. She then arched her back seductively; the other women moved between the other’s legs and let the other grind on her. By this time people were watching in amazement that they were doing this, particularly the males seemed to really enjoy this. The women knew they were being watched and they performed for their audience. The one with the short dress moved in front of the other, facing her, and put her face to the other’s breast. She then bent over, sticking her behind in the air; the other reached over to the other’s behind and pulled up her dress exposing her behind.  I was amazed at how provocative these women were being, but I did realize that they were putting on a performance for the people watching them.  This assumption was based on their glares at the people around them, smiling with seduction in their eyes. Finally, after what seemed like an hour, their male partner came to hand them each a red bull, not really what I expected these women to drink. I was expecting them to be drinking alcohol since their behavior could be blamed on being drunk but they seemed sober. They proceeded back to the dance floor and this was when the show was over. In my opinion, these women might have been hired to be the male’s company for the night; they did not seem to know how to dance with the music played here because they were the only ones dancing in such a manner. As far as a theatrical performance, it could be considered one mainly because of their interaction with the audience and the acknowledgement that they had an audience.  Their performance felt like watching in-yer-face drama because it was shocking and to a certain point uncomfortable to watch, yet one could not look away.
