I have been a fan of Jonathan Groff since the musical Spring Awakening was on Off Broadway and I knew that there was no way I was going to miss seeing him in the play Death Trap while I was here. My friend suggested we go to the theatre early in the morning to get ten pound tickets for the first row. We figured that there would be a lot of people waiting and the theatre only had twenty tickets for that price. With this information we decided that we would go at eight in the morning to line up and wait until ten when they start to sell the tickets.
The day came and we were there around 8:30 am. We figured we had gotten there at a reasonable time because only one other person was in line. Turns out we didn’t need to get there early at all because only one person got into line after us for a total of six people in line, four of the people included me and friends. But we got our tickets and I was happy!
We came back that night for the show and sat down in our front row seats. I was so excited to see Jonathan Groff perform live. Being a fan of his I have read up on his performance and have heard about his problem with spitting when performing. I told the friends I was with but I don’t think that they believed that it would be that bad. Turns out it was even worse than I thought. I heard people behind me commenting on his spitting and everyone in the first few rows were pretty much dodging spit throughout the play.
The play was amazing, even with the copious amount of saliva flying around. I didn’t want to read up on the play before I went because I had heard that there is a twist and I wanted to be surprised. And surprised I was. There were so many twists and turns within the play it always kept me guessing. I enjoyed that the whole time I was on the edge of my seat waiting for whatever was next to come. I left the theatre thoroughly impressed. And afterward I got to meet Jonathan Groff, which was amazing.
I really enjoyed the play and all of the actors were exceptional. I would have paid full price for tickets to the show and I would recommend it to everyone who is questioning whether to watch it or not.
