My Sneak Peek into London Fashion

Fashion and festivities, makeovers and must-haves, carnival and costumes, bloggers and buyers. All describe the scene at Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out in London. This was an even where celebrities, designers, and models performed and mingled with shoppers. This was a great opportunity for fashionistas alike to have a bit of fun and take the serious business out of retail. I had first heard of this event through one of the girls in the program and brushed it off as something that really wasn’t my scene. I love clothes, but hate the sometimes pretentious and fickle attitudes of the fashion world. I then changed my mind when I heard about the great music and food that would be there.

The streets were filled with thousands of people in their highest heels, me included. I was amazed with how many shops were still open especially because it was getting to be so late. We had just missed the fashion show in Covent Garden but we still met up with the people in our program that were already there. They were going around to stations where people could have makeovers and manicures, have their fortune told, have fashion artists draw their portrait, or get their face painted for free! This especially excited me because I was in dire need of my nails being done, especially since we had planned to go out for a night on the town afterwards. To my surprise, I received a free goodie-bag of make up and nail polish after my nails were done.

It was a trendy atmosphere, everywhere from its vintage light bulb lighting to the hip music that DJs would mix in front of our eyes. I enjoyed the music so much so that even when I was waiting in line to get my fashion drawing done I was happy just dancing along to the music. Another attraction that I was very impressed with was the photo booth that would print out your picture as if it were on the front cover Vogue. It took a little while for my friend and I to take a decent photo because we kept accidentally taking the picture before we were ready, we still laugh about it today.

Not only was this a great opportunity to get free merchandise but it also gave people the opportunity to steal a look at Britain’s high-end fashions for the upcoming season. I soon learned that it is about the celebration of British fashion, especially when we passed by a shoe shop were the designer was there hand-painting shoes. This event was an exhibition of the best. It is also a way for designers to get themselves out there and meet others who have the same passion and interest in fashion.

Vogue’s Fashion’s Night Out might be about brand building but I also found that it also facilitates designers meeting and having fun with their customers. I wasn’t necessary there for the designer fashions but I definitely had a blast at this event.
