Occupy: A People’s Performance for change around the World
Barcelona, Spain “ We are the 99%” Demonstration |
Perhaps the most riveting and inspirational performance is happening right here, right now. Presently, the world is participating in a united revolution. Following the occupy Wall Street Protests in New York, places as diverse as Spain, London and even my own home town of the Bay Area have demonstrated great resilience and influence in a worldwide performance working to transform a variety of aspects affecting the people. More specifically, affected participants, many who interpret the current social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and corruption, influence of the government etc. are using various vessels of the media (internet, newspaper, etc) to perform as well as spread demonstrations for change.

“We are the 99%” is notably the most established slogan presented over the many months of the Occupy demonstrations. This now, very famous slogan (initially sparked by Occupy: Wall Street to contest of the top 1% income earners in the United States) becomes a part of the worldwide performance which continues to encourage demonstrations as a vehicle for change.

It is interesting to note that various figures in our societies such as authors, academia affiliates, various workers unions, political activists, and celebrities, have all joined forces in the World Wide presentation for change.

The past few weeks here in London have been rhapsodies of flocks of young people, mainly students, protesting the astounding cuts in their education. While sitting outside of my flat I could hear the drone of helicopters flying overhead. Not realizing what was happening right in front of my flat, I began to see huge crowds of young people holding signs with various slogans contesting the governments winning in the vote to increase tuition fees in Higher Education.
This was the result:
It is safe to say that the influence and performances that are Occupy demonstrations around the world have inspired the student protests in London. The Fact that millions of people are presently participating in this fresh and exciting multiplicity of performance for change encourages all students around the world who affected by the cuts to participate in transforming the world.
Although Occupy demonstrations are in a sense a worldwide performance for change, there are however, forces that do not agree with the various demonstrations happening right now. Unfortunately, through all the excellent demonstrations for change, there are however forces preventing the people from performing peacefully due to crime and police presence (using Plastic Bullets to shoot at demonstrators, blunt force, unnecessary arrests, and so on) Even though this may be the case, the people around the world are resilient and inspired to get what they want which is change for the people and the powers that rule. The people of the world are continuing to give a remarkable presentation of what it takes to change the world. The world deserves a standing ovation!
