Attending my first ever electronic based concert by Steve Aoki was an amazing experience. The famous Southern California DJ performed at the well known KOKO nightclub that is renowned because of the famous musicians that have performed in the past as well as the style and details of an old theatre that the nightclub brings to life. The concert was titled “Electro vs. Dubstep Wars w/ Steve Aoki,” in which we see thousands of fans clustered together at KOKO’s nightclub waiting to see Aoki’s famous creations of electro based music, his one and only show in London. After years of building credibility for his-self, Aoki has transformed his-self from being a local DJ entity into one that is recognized worldwide for his high energy performance and creative music that leaves the audience astonished and wanting more. His creation of different mixtures of genres has furthered his abilities to demonstrate his style of music but most importantly his skill and love.
While waiting outside in line I anticipated walking into any other normal concert performance and venue. As I entered the venue, I heard loud epic music and seen people dancing and having fun. As I looked all around the three to four floor venue my eyes constantly noticed the details of the old theatre. It was obvious to me at the time that this venue was once a theater hall because of how it surrounded the main stage as well as the removal of the seats. While the opening artist warmed up the crowed by performing their mixtures of both trance and techno the true calling of the night was for Aoki. As fans consistently shouted his name and flocked to the dance floor waiting for him demonstrated that the majority of the people where uninterested in the opening acts and where simply waiting to see Aoki’s epic performance.
After the final opening act was done, fans began screaming at the top of their lungs, all one was able to hear was echoes of the chants for “AOKI, AOKI.” These constant roars helped built momentum and gave life to Aoki as he makes his grand entrance. As he finally enters the stage, Aoki shows his affectionate display of gratitude to his audience by spraying them with champagne. With a start like this Aoki created an unpredictable show that only led to more phenomenal things. His next big thing while mixing his fantastic music was jumping onto a inflatable boat. In the end the fans wanted more of him and his music. That night he left his presence with each and every one of his fans as well as his legend at the well known KOKO’s nightclub.
